Verizon Expects the iPhone 5 to Launch This Fall

Verizon, Mobiles, Apple, iPhone 5,
While discussing Verizon’s results from the past quarter, Verizon COO and soon-to-be CEO Lowell McAdam made a very candid quip about Apple’s next iPhone release saying that while his company had expected it this summer, the carrier now expects it to arrive sometime this fall. Of course, this isn’t new. There are rumors abound about a release sometime this fall and possibly as soon as the end of August but what does make this interesting is that it’s coming from the CEO of a major wireless provider and not from a source. He did however state that his company still has no idea when the phone is going to come out.

So, if you’ve been worrying about whether or not the iPhone 4S/iPhone 5 would be coming out this year, you can probably rest pretty easy. It’s now just a matter of getting a specific date down.

Speaking of that, iPhone Italia, a source that will surely get a laugh out of our own Will Shanklin, is reporting that September 5th is the date that a “very reliable source” told them would be launch day for the next iPhone in the United States. That launch would then be followed by a October 5th launch everywhere else. Take those specific dates with a grain of salt but that early September release date has popped up so many times that it seems like the right horse to bet on.

Fake Chinese Apple store has even staff fooled

Fakes, Chinese, Apple
Yahoo reported today that China's passion for iPads and iPhones has triggered widespread cloning and even brawls. Now, it has gone further with a fake Apple store so convincing even the staff think they work for Steve Jobs.

The store, in the southwestern city of Kunming, was uncovered by an American blogger who was initially fooled, before she noticed not everything was as it seemed.

At first glance, the signs, computers and layout of the shop all look exactly like a genuine Apple store, says the blogger, who posts under the name BirdAbroad.

Photos posted by the blogger show the employees wearing Apple's trademark blue T-shirts with name badges hanging around their necks.

But a closer look reveals the winding stairs going up to the chill-out area are poorly made, the walls have not been painted well, and the shopfront sign says "Apple Store" whereas the real deal just sports the now-famous fruit logo.

The employees, meanwhile, all genuinely believe they work for Apple, said BirdAbroad, who asked to remain anonymous when contacted by AFP on Thursday.

Here Are Some New Details On The iPhone 5

http://static8.businessinsider.com/image/4db2d804cadcbb285e3e0000/iphone-5-mock.jpg

Bloomberg dug up some new details on the iPhone 5, which it says is coming in September. Some of them are already out there:

The iPhone 5 will include a faster chip, the A5, that Apple is using with the iPad 2

The camera resolution will improve to 8 megapixels, from 5 megapixels

The iPhone 5 release was delayed until September to wait for the iOS 5 release. (This is the first time we have heard an explanation for this delay.)

Apple is developing a cheaper "low-end" iPhone for developing countries that will be similar to today's iPhone 4. This will help the company compete with the Android onslaught.

The iPad 3, meanwhile, will likely have better screen resolution and a more responsive touchscreen.

IDC is projecting that Android will have more than twice the global market share as the iPhone by the end of the year: 40% for Android versus 18% for iPhone. This makes the cheaper iPhone even more important.

Taiwan computer makers plot against Apple

Taipei, Taiwan

It’s the Disney of computer shows. The possibility of something once thought impossible coming true hangs above the maze of gaudy booths and dazzling displays of electronic gadgetry slated for to go on sale in the second half of the year.

There are tablet PCs with detachable keyboards – easier for typing than the usual touch screen – laptops with built-in speakers as powerful as an external setup and half-phone, half-computer handheld devices with 3D displays.

Tech firms from across the world come with showgirls to vie for the attention of corporate buyers, among the 36,000 people expected at the show. A fantasy fulfilled could be a lucrative deal to install microchips in a PC maker’s latest gadgets or finding a bulk buyer of portable computers designed for business use.

The show, Computex Taipei, also serves another purpose: To demonstrate the growing depth and sophistication of Taiwan's high-tech industry. Taiwanese companies hope to show how far they've moved from the days when "Taiwanese electronics" meant contract manufacturing for overseas brands.

But for many Taiwanese vendors, this years Computex, which ended on June 4, was a disappointment. Their Silicon Valley rival Apple Computer had stolen the show.

Rather than enjoying the glitz and glam, Micro-Star International Vice President Henry Lu sat stoically, his necktie loose, in a private conference room pondering one question: What are we going to do about the iPad?

Just outside, his sales people were showing off the Taiwanese firm’s tiny tablet computers, barely one percent of the company’s overall notebook PC business. But Apple’s hot selling touch-screen tablets, the iPads, were getting most of the attention.

Five advantages of trading forex market .

1. 24 Hour Market: Since the forex market is worldwide, trading is continuous as long as there is a market open somewhere in the world. Trading starts when the markets open in Australia on Sunday evening, and ends after markets close in New York on Friday.

2. High Liquidity: Liquidity is the ability of an asset to be converted into cash quickly and without any price discount. In forex this means we can move large amounts of money into and out of foreign currency with minimal price movement.

3. Low Transaction Cost: In forex, typically the cost for a transaction is built into the price. It is called the spread. The spread is the difference between the buying and selling price.

4. Leverage: Forex Brokers allow traders to trade the market using leverage. Leverage is the ability to trade more money on the market than what is actually in the trader's account. If you were to trade at 50:1 leverage, you could trade $50 on the market for every $1 that was in your account. This means you could control a trade of $50,000 using only $1000 of capital.

5. Profit Potential from Rising and Falling Prices: The forex market has no restrictions for directional trading. This means, if you think a currency pair is going to increase in value; you can buy it, or go long. Similarly, if you think it could decrease in value you can sell it, or go short.

5 things Apple borrowed from Android for iOS 5

Apple's iOS 5 is slated for release this fall, presumably with iPhone 5. But the Android Army doesn't have to wait, like the iPhone idolators. Android users can have some of those features now. Looks like Apple has been doing a little copycatting. Again.

It's funny, since hardcore Apple enthusiasts are so quick to accuse whenever they see anyone copying the slightest thing from Steve Jobs' company. They're not as fast to acknowledge when Apple does the, ah, borrowing. I'm glad to do it for them.

With that brief introduction, here's my second top-5 list within 12 hours presented in order of importance.

It's coincidental there are two so close together; don't expect this to be habit.

1. Cloud Synchronization. With iOS 5 and iCloud, iPhone users will get most of the sync benefits Androiders have long enjoyed.

2. Notifications Center. Apple gets kudos for better presentation, but Google had the concept first.

3. Over-the-air updates. Apple has made iPhone slave to iTunes for far too long. Apple cuts the update cord that binds the iPhone chain gang.

4. Photo sharing. Android users know the many benefits of using an open system, where developers are allowed to tap into the platform capabilities. Apple presents sharing options for its services but none other. Photo sharing will be available from the camera and photo gallery.

5. Twitter. Androiders can tweet from some apps, like the browser and YouTube, a capability iPhoners will get these capabilities from Twitter being integrated into iOS 5.

Guinness Awards World Records to IPhone 4, App Store, Angry Birds

Apple's iPhone 4, its App Store and several games have earned world records, cementing the iOS platform as a force not only among smartphones, but gaming platforms as well.

According to Guinness World Records, the iPhone 4 is the fastest selling portable gaming device in history, selling about 1.5 million units since June 24, 2010. In comparison, Sony's PlayStation Portable moved 200,000 units its first day, while Nintendo needed nine days to move 500,000 DS handhelds in 2004.

In addition to Apple's iPhone, its App Store, which since its July 2008 debut has received 6.5 billion downloads of its 37,000-plus available downloadable games, was named far-and-away the largest gaming destination in the world. The App Store's numbers dwarf the competition, with Steam, the PC's answer to iTunes, offering gamers about 1,100 titles and. Microsoft's Xbox Live Indie Game store carrying around 1,300.

Several games won individual honors from Guinness as well, including "Angry Birds," which nabbed the top-spot for paid games, with its 6.5 million iOS downloads since its debut in Dec. 2009. "Plants vs. Zombies," from developer PopCap, was recognized as the fastest-selling iPhone strategy game with 300,000 paid-downloads its first nine days on the market, while Tapulous' "Tap Tap Revenge" series was given the nod as the highest-selling game series on the IPhone with more than 15 million downloads.

The iPhone's mobility has surely played a role in making the device a popular destination for casual and serious gamers alike. Today's smartphone user always has their device in arms reach, and having games right on their device eliminates the need for bulky, pocket-filling handhelds like the PSP and Nintendo DS.

In addition, the App store is always a click away, offering thousands of games with price-tags as low as $1. The low entry point allows users to experiment with several games because, unlike console games that charge up to anywhere from $30 to $50 a title.

Dedicated console gamers point to the richer and deeper game play experience as justification for the increased price, but the argument doesn't resonate well with average casual gamers, who increasingly turn to their smartphones for a quick game or two to pass the time between other activities. Especially in these difficult economic times, gamers are looking for cheaper forms of entertainment, and are finding it in app-style downloadable titles.

For their part, Nintendo has been vocal against the growing popularity of App Store games, saying they cheapen and threaten the very existence of full-scale, console gaming systems.

But, as the Guinness Awards underscore, smartphones are continuing their march towards ubiquity, and as a result, downloadable gaming will continue to grow, continuing a paradigm shift from traditional console-based gaming on the television screen to the touch-sensitive small screen.
