Microsoft saved the best for last at its E3 press conference, confirming that Halo 4 is in development by unveiling the first teaser trailer for the game.
The minute-long trailer starts with a view of the nervous system and mind of Master Chief, the franchise’s star character, who quickly bursts out of a pod and jumps directly into space combat.
Halo 4 will hit store shelves sometime during holiday 2012. The franchise, which is now in its tenth year, is also debuting a remastered version of the original game, complete with updated graphics, reworked levels and new multiplayer options.

Microsoft officially unveils Windows 8

Microsoft has officially unveiled some key new features of its forthcoming operating system. The next-generation OS, which may or may not be called “Windows 8” (its “internal code-name”), delivers a completely re-imagined user interface, with a heavy emphasis on touch-based functionality that takes a hefty helping of inspiration from the Windows Phone UI.

One of the first major design changes from previous Windows versions is the completely overhauled Windows Start menu, which has been replaced with a colorful tiled design that evokes the Exposé screen of Firefox, or other similar quick-screen-navigation features found in most new web browsers. Rather than web pages, however, the new Start screen shows both static program icons and widgets, called “live tiles,” which provide constant notifications and updates. Windows 8 also allows users to access all the files on their computer in the same visualized way that programs are accessed, which helps make the OS easy to navigate with touch alone.

Post-Microsoft acquisition, Skype crashes

VoIP and group video conferencing provider and latest buy of Microsoft, Skype has crashed, as users from across the world are citing sign-in and communication issues.



The Inquirer reported that Skype service crashed at about 12:15pm UK time.



Skype's response which was placed on Twitter read: "Some of you may have problems signing in to Skype and making calls. We're investigating and hope to have more details to share soon."



Soon another message said, "Thanks for your patience – we’ve identified the problem and will be rolling out a fix soon."



Engadget stated that the problem was not universal and the fault seemed to be in the latest version of Skype.



Skype faced a similar outage in Dec. 2010 which was more widespread in nature. The outage report comes just days after Microsoft acquired Skype for $8.5 billion.

Why Microsoft Buying Nokia Might Actually Make Sense

Today's wacky mobile industryrumor is that Microsoft could be interested in buying Nokia's mobile phone division , on the heels of the companies' Windows Phone 7 partnership.
Now, this is pretty out-there. The deal would be huge -- Nokia's market cap is $32 billion -- and it would be a big shift in Microsoft's focus. So it'seasy to laugh this off as a big, silly rumor .
But there's one reason why Microsoft potentially buying Nokia actually makes sense.
Because it's the only way that Microsoft could ever make enough money off Windows phones to matter.
Apple , HTC , and RIM have shown that when a smartphone company is performing well, there is a healthy amount of profit to be made. Apple likely makes a fewhundred dollars in profit per iPhone sold, for example.

Microsoft to buy Nokia? Eyebrow-raising rumor of the day

The big rumor that’s been spreading across the Interwebs today is that Microsoft is looking to buy Nokia’s mobile division, just three months after the companies announced a partnership and just a week after Microsoft said it will acquire Skype for $8.5 billion .
The chatter started when influential and well-connected Russian analyst/blogger Eldar Murtazin wrote on his personal blog ( Google translation | Bing translation ) that negotiations are starting between Nokia and Microsoft, and a deal would close by the end of this year.“Both companies are very much in a hurry,”Murtazin wrote, according to the Google translation.
But the rumor seems quite odd, considering the companies just inked a deal worth billions of dollars to make Windows Phone the main operating system on Nokia smart phones. What more could Microsoft need from the world’s largest phone maker? Hardware? Really?
Nevertheless, Murtazin has a stellar track record on Nokia rumors.
