UTV hold the shooting of "Heroine" for aish who will become a mother.

The makers of 'Horoine' have decided to put the film on the hold for a while. Soon after they heard about their leading lady’s pregnancy, director Madhur Bhandarkar and the producers Ronnie Srewvala and Siddharth Roy Kapoor met up and decided on their next course of action

AARON CARTER REVEALS MICHAEL JACKSON'S DRUG/ALCOHOL HANDOUTS

Leave it up to attention seeking people who reveal information that isn't pertinent anymore...Aaron Carter, who has been in and out of rehab, reveals the relationship he shared with the late Michael Jackson. Though he never spoke much about their friendship, he opens up about their relationships which embodied getting introduced to good music and included drugs/alcohol.

Aaron says in an interview, "I never talked about it… This is the first time. I do… I miss Michael… I have spent such incredible times with him. I did things with him that nobody else did… But I was also troubled about what he did to me … Yes, he gave me wine. I mean, I could have refused, but I was 15. He gave me cocaine. I felt weird about that and other stuff… We spoke afterwards, hours and hours, on the phone. I admired Michael, but his behaviour bothered me a lot. Then my mother called the police…"

Can you say total shocker?! But what is Aaron Carter's word almost two years after Michael Jackson passed away? I mean if you never mentioned it before, what good comes out of mentioning it now whether it is true or false? No one likes a rat, especially after the fact that someone legendary passes away, at least state something where the other person involved can defend themselves!!!

JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS SUICIDE ATTEMPT!!!

Jonathan Rhys Meyers...had the biggest crush on him ever since I saw him on Bend It Like Beckham. Since then it seems his career has been on the ups, appearing on TV series, movies, fragrance lines, ad campaigns, etc.

Which breaks my heart to see this news story. Jonathan has been taken away from an ambulance due to a possible suicide attempt by the cause of overdosing on pills. He was found by paramedics on the floor refusing treatment for half an hour, making them call the police.

It was stated, "This is very sad. It was the opinion of those present that he tried to take his life."

"Officers were called by London Ambulance Service following reports of a man refusing treatment. The man was taken to hospital."

This isn't the first time Jonathan has had his share of troubles in related to substance abuse. He's been struggling with alcohol for awhile and has been to rehab five times. We truly are praying for you and hope things get better because suicide is never the answer for a cure. Not only will it affect you, but also so many others around you who know you intimately and impersonally like all your fans and supporters. Stay strong!!!

Friendship Day

The Filipino-American Friendship Day on June 26 drew a huge crowd, and with it a melee triggered by film star Aljur Abrenica.
Pandemonium broke out when eye candy Aljur showed up on stage for his number. One woman passed out from too much heat and too thick a crowd. Two fans, who were taking photos of the hunky actor, got into fight when one was accidentally pushed aside by the other. The program was interrupted for a few minutes, and the festival security was called to the scene.
Except for that little incident, the parade proceeded as in traditional FilAm festivals — with pomp, pageantry and pork barbecue.
The parade began at noon from Jersey City’s Claremont Avenue and ended at Lincoln Park featuring marchers in their colorful Filipiniana attire and crisp barong. The participants represented diverse groups and organizations. Some rode in colorful floats followed by marching
bands.
But what is most noticeable is the pageantry of beauties. It seemed like almost every association has a beauty queen or a tiara-ed princess.
“It just amuses me to see so many teen girls and married women wearing long train gowns and huge crowns complete with sashes that tell you about their winning titles. It’s becoming so much a part of our culture,” observed Sami Bonghanoy from Bergenfield, a cheerful onlooker at the parade.
The parade was organized by the Philippine American Friendship Committee, headed by its president Isagani Puertollano. Consul General Mario de Leon Jr. and this year’s grand marshal Nena Lozada-Kaufman led the parade.
The 21st parade and festival was slightly smaller compared to the Independence Day event in New York which attracted as much as 100,000 people, according to organizers’ estimates. However, it drew strong support from the New Jersey government. Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah
Healy and Senator Robert Menendez attended the festivities. CBS 2 news anchor Kristine Johnson also made a special appearance.
“This is an effort to continue the tradition of celebrating the friendly relations between the United States and the Philippines,” the organizers said. “The event serves to celebrate Filipino solidarity and culture.”
Contract stars from GMA Network in the Philippines provided glam and glitter: TV host Iza Calzado, actor and balladeer Mark Bautista, Star Struck singing champion Jennylyn Mercado and, the “Ultimate Hunk” Aljur.
“GMA is honored to be part of the celebration,” said Grace Hufano Labaguis, East Coast representative of the network. The local artists held their own alongside talents from Manila. They were Kirby Asunto, Nina Waga Mojares, Craig and Samantha Abaya Campos, Alyssa Shoemaker, Maureen Varco and Tiffany Viray.

Castle Season 4

Castle Season 4
There are still months and months left until Castle has the good sense to return to our televisions. With that in mind, do spoilers make anything better at this point, or do they just feed into our desire for more shows now? If so, I'm sorry, because this article contains spoilers about the first episode of Castleseason 4.
WARNING: Spoilers of minimal plot importance follow. Do not continue reading if you're one of those people who must be surprised by every little detail in your television viewing. If not, no worries. This isn't so bad.

According to a report from TVLine, there will be a fight between two of the Castle characters within minutes of the season's beginning. Which two characters?

It's probably no surprise that Castle is one of them. After all, he was a little bit emotional the last time we saw him -- declarations of love uttered to one's gravely-wounded partner will do that. But the other character involved in the fistfight? That would be Josh.
Remember him? Josh would be Beckett's oft-mentioned but rarely-seen doctor boyfriend. Since reports indicate that next season will pick up more-or-less immediately after this one, we can safely guess that Beckett's shooting will be a major motivation for the fight.

What are the other possible reasons? Should Beckett be lucid enough to repeat what Castle said to her, it's entirely possible that Josh will initiate the fight. Alternatively, just imagine the likely outcome of Josh (or any other doctor) trying to keep Castle away from Beckett.

Or it could be about something else entirely. Castle is often misleading that way.

Whatever the cause of the fight, it will come in an episode entitled "Rise." Obviously, this tells us nothing about the plot at all -- we can expect something or someone to move in an upward direction, either physically, emotionally or intellectually. Otherwise, good luck with the guessing!

VICTORIA BECKHAM LAUNCHES MORE "AFFORDABLE" CLOTHING LINE

Victoria Beckham besides expanding her family, is now expanding her fashion empire. The more "affordable" clothing line will be called Victoria by Victoria Beckham and it will come out this spring.

The collection was inspired by a cartoon character named Emily the Strange, who is constantly followed around by cats. Differing from her previous line the Victoria Beckham Collection, the clothes are less structured and include printed fabrics.

Victoria comments, "These are the kind of dresses I’ve been searching for. The perfect little summer dress, something that was fun, something that was girly, something that was easy to wear, something that would take you from day through the night.

Where I am currently, I like a more modern attitude. Also, it means that I’m opening these designs to women and girls of all different shapes and sizes, people who maybe want something less tight and clingy and structured. It also makes it more comfortable for during the day. You can wear them with a pair of flats or a pair of heels and they look great."

So what will this more "affordable" line cost you? Not that cheap as you might've expected, to be more specific the range is between $550-$900. I guess it's a steal compared to her first line which retails for $2000+!!! THIS AIN'T NO CHANEL UP IN HERE!!! In this economy, many designers are looking to cater toward the middle class budget, not to only higher classes --> Take a hint girl!!!

Google Plus Demo

The battle for the eyeballs of social media network users is intensifying, with Google launching a demo version of 'Google+' (called Google Plus), the search engine giant's renewed attempt to take on Facebook in the social networking arena.
“This is just the beginning...We're just getting warmed up...launching what we call a field trial period, an invitation-only approach to help smooth out the rough edges,” said an official Google post on the demo site.
While designing the new service, Google has kept in mind social circles, called plus circles, and a Twitter-inspired feature that resembles real-life social interactions. It allows users to selectively share information with specific groups within defined circles, rather than sharing it with all their social connections at once. One can create as many circles as one wishes to, for whatever categories one wants, adding friends and contacts simply by clicking and dragging names onto various circles.
Google is also featuring a web conferencing option, in which up to 10 people can join in simultaneously. A feature called Sparks would provide users with web content on various topics like sports or fashion, allowing the user to subscribe to categories of interest, create custom categories, and share content with friends. Google would also release Google Plus mobile apps for Android smartphones and iPhones. This would include special features like cloud-based photo storage and group messaging. With its instant upload feature, one's photos and videos automatically upload themselves to a private album on Google+. Its 'Huddle' feature turns different conversations into a group chat.
Google, however, has its work cut out. Facebook leads the global social media networking pack, with nearly 750 million users (including 500 million active users), followed by LinkedIn (around 100 million), Twitter (around 75 million), the 100-odd million Orkut (Brazil and India accounting for most users) and MySpace, with 30 million-odd users.
Google's earlier attempts saw feeble success in the social networking space. It could not create a 'Wave', generate a 'Buzz' or make 'Orkut' grab eyeballs in markets outside Brazil and India. Even in India, Orkut has been steadily losing marketshare to Facebook. Compared with against Facebook's 31 million users, Orkut has around 18 million. Various Google social products —Orkut, Lively, Google Friend Connect, Wave and Buzz—just haven't caught on, say social media experts.
Last February, Gmail users impulsively clicked on Google Buzz. Where else could one get such a massive installed base with a single click? By building Buzz directly into Gmail, the service had an instant audience of nearly 180 million users.
Similar to Google+, Buzz was said to be a stream of status updates, pictures, links and videos from friends. One could 'like' these and comment on them. If one used Flickr, Picasa, Google Reader or Twitter, you could automatically import these into one's stream. Buzz also recommended items one might like, based on the activities of one's friends. However, Google was reprimanded for abusing the privacy of individuals by pushing-in Buzz to all its users, after which it had to backtrack. Today, there's hardly any buzz about the product.
With close to 4,000 Twitter mentions every minute (Twirus data), Google +1 was a hot topic of discussion on the microblogging site. Blogger Vikram Pandit wrote, “We'll see how it plays out when the users begin flooding in, but +1 isn't really as fun or as social as Facebook's or Twitter's various web-consuming widgets.” Another Twitter user, Sameer Garde, said, “If this is how Google wants to take on Facebook's social reach, then it's going to be an interesting fight to watch.” Facebook user Meena Raheja expressed her opinion as a status update, “Don't find Google Plus One intuitively appealing, at least just yet. Will stay with FB (Facebook) till the jury's out.”
The jury, however, spoke in a mixed voice, saying it was too early to be sure. Chris George, chief executive, EBS Worldwide, said, “Before marketers start thinking about leveraging Google+ as a new alternative to FB, it would be important to see how it works with the users. At the face of it, Google+ offers an interesting methodology to organise your social media friends and acquaintances (around what they call circles). But Google also has a history of great ideas that haven't really fired up users.”
Navin Chandani, managing director, Experian Marketing Services, says, “Globally, the convergence of search marketing and social marketing is a growing trend and the new feature from Google is a step in that direction. Social media allows consumers to secure 'peer' or 'friend' level recommendations, and search engines allow consumers to find information, products and services.” According to Experian Hitwise Clickstream data, search engines contribute 38 per cent, while social media websites contribute about 10 per cent of the traffic to over 200,000 websites tracked by the company in India. “A social marketing feature on a search engine is definitely not something a marketer can ignore,” says Chandani.
Games2win sees the +1 button as a welcome change. India chief executive Alok Kejriwal says, “Online games are highly 'searched' by lots of consumers on search engines and we are delighted to have the +1 button implemented on our site. It immediately allows content to bubble up and be seen by friends on the Google network.” He insists the Facebook 'Like' button works in collusion with +1 and not in seclusion. “To me, an FB like/comment is a 'viral push', +1 is a 'viral pull',” he says.
Nevertheless, Google, the $29-billion search engine giant, garners negligible revenue from the enterprise space, compared to its phenomenal success with web advertising, which accounts for almost 96 per cent of its total revenue. A successful social networking site would only add to its web advertising prowess.
Google to revamp home page
Google is working on a project to introduce a new and improved Google experience. Over the next few months, the search engine says users would continue to see more updates on its look and feel. Its homepage, too, would get a makeover. Google has also created a ‘What do you love’? (http://www.wdyl.com/#) page. For instance, if you type the word ‘nature’, it throws up a host of neatly-packaged information under different subheads. The synergy with Google+ is evident.

Kate Spade

Kate Spade
One look at the Kate Spade Vanston Small Maryclare and I immediately imagined myself enjoying a little breakfast at Tiffany’s. The darling robin’s egg blue hue (which they call Caribbean) lends a cool, refreshing vibe to what would otherwise be pure, simple, refined elegance. All of those things are great, of course, but a pop of pretty livens things up considerably. (However, if you prefer austerity, there are also versions in black, tan and white.) Find this for $395 at Kate Spade.

Park Arong

The current spotlight from Mighty Mouth’s recently released music video for “Fiesta“ is on rookie actress Park Arong, who makes an appearance as one of the bikini-clad ladies by the pool.
Even in the midst of the many similarly dressed and glamorous women, netizens have taken special notice in Park Arong for her especially nice figure and dancing skills.
A representative noted, “Park Arong had helped raise the bar of the bikini-fest simply by letting herself move to the rhythm of the upbeat song.”
Netizens were quick to comment, “You have a beautiful smile” and “I’ve fallen for your petite but sensual body“, all showing their interest in the actress.
Park Arong has previously made appearances in the SBS drama ‘Ja Myung Go‘ and the film ‘Bang Ja Jun‘, and is currently filming the drama ‘Dancing Queen‘.

Tanjong Pagar Railway Station

MR SHAMSUL Bahari became somewhat of a celebrity on Thursday evening, as hundreds of visitors swamped the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station on its last day of operations.
The station manager, 43, who's worked at the station since 1996, was signing autographs for the people who came up to him bearing souvenirs -- from coffee mugs to PVC folders with images of the station imprinted on them. 'Must be more than 1,000 people already since this morning,' Mr Bahari said, smiling. 'No, my hands not tired yet!'
Around the station, shutterbugs scattered themselves, adding to the sense of occasion, bulbs flashing at every corner of the 79-year-old KTM Railway Station. Music blared through stereos brought by visitors; necks craned behind iron grilles that separated the ticketing booth from the train platforms. On Friday, the land on which the station sits will revert to Singapore.
Retired station manager Sukhairi Ahmad Junid, who arrived on the last incoming train at 6pm together with 40 other retired KTM staff, said he was sad to see the station stop operations. 'We worked here, we ate here, we were happy here,' said the 59-year-old.
Visitors included also Mr Phill Seah, a tourism consultant in his 50s, who, like many others, said he came by out of curiosity. 'I just want to see what the fuss is about,' he said.
University student Denise Chua, 20, who came with a group of 15 friends, described the final send-off was an event 'not to be missed'. She said: 'We want to be part of this history-making moment.'
The last passenger train will leave the station at 10pm. The Sultan of Johor is expected to drive the final train into Malaysia at 11pm.

MindTree

Ashok Soota, co-founder and former chairman of MindTree, has sold almost half of his 11.1 per cent stake in the mid-sized information technology (IT) services company for Rs 94 crore.
The 5.5 per cent stake was bought by Coffee Day Resorts, an entity owned by Cafe Coffee Day Group owner, V G Siddhartha. Siddhartha already owns 6.12 per cent in MindTree through his venture capital company Global Technology Ventures (GTV).
Soota sold 2.2 million shares at Rs 433 per share, a 20 per cent premium to the stock’s closing price of Rs 361 yesterday, in a bulk deal on the National Stock Exchange. Shares in MindTree on Thursday closed 8.77 per cent higher at Rs 392.65 on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
“Siddhartha from GTV is an existing member of the board of directors at MindTree, and has supported us for over 12 years now. The move indicates that the original investor has an abiding faith in the fundamentals of the company and the future,” MindTree said in a statement.
Soota, who co-founded MindTree in 1999 with nine other industry professionals, resigned in March, citing personal reasons. Soon after, he announced his new venture in IT services space, Happiest Minds.
“The cash raised through the stake sale will be used to fuel my new venture, Happiest Minds, and also the NGO (non-governmental organisation) which I have planned,” Soota told Business standard.
Among the promoters of MindTree, Soota was the single largest stakeholder with a 11.1 per cent stake as on March 31. When asked if he was planning to exit MindTree by selling his remaining stake, Soota said it would be done in due course though he had not set a time frame for this. “There is an emotional quotient attached to MindTree. At this point of time, I have not decided about selling the remaining stake or exit. But I will divest the shares.”

Rakhi Sawant

Item girl Rakhi Sawant is elated to hear thatAishwarya RaiBachchan is expecting and she said that she is praying this to Lord Jesus for the last eight months.
Rakhi Sawant said, "Aishwarya has everything in life - success, fame and money. I'm sure she wanted to experience motherhood. I love the Bachchan family and my best wishes are with them." Is she also thinking to settle down? "Not at all. I still have a few more years left to work before I settle down in life and take a sabbatical. Mujhe pata hai heroines ki kya right age hai shaadi karne ke liye. Of what we have seen so far, 34-35 is perfect for anyone to get married. Fortunately, I still have about five more years to invest in the industry," she says. "Swayamvar ke baad se toh vishwas shaadi se uth gaya. Har kisi ki kismat Aishwarya Rai, Shilpa Shetty jaisi nahin hoti. They are lucky to have found the right life partner. It is scary to get married to a person who wants to use you for personal gains”.
Very soon we will get to see Rakhi Sawant in ‘Ratan Ki Swayambar’. She tells us that the viewers will be shocked to see her in a new avatar. "Main show mein shock value ke liye hoon. Main sab ladkon ki taang kheechne waali hoon. Kaun kitne paani mai hai sab pata chal jayega."

Social Media Day

Happy Social Media Day!
Thursday is the day to step back and consider all that the world of social networking has brought us, or so say the blogging folk over at CNN.com content partner Mashable.
And we're not just talking about FarmVille.
In its second year, Social Media Day isdescribed by Mashable as "a day to celebrate the revolution" brought on by sites like Facebook and Twitter (and, lest we forget, their forefathers like Myspace and Friendster).
Mashable, the blog that made its bones following the ascent of social networking, has organized more than 600 meet-ups all over the world to celebrate (not to mention provide opportunities for an extra Foursquare or Gowalla check-in).
Twitter users are using the #smday hashtag to discuss the day's events, and organizations from media to retail outlets are hoping to piggy-back, showing off their online credentials at the same time.
Even Major League Baseball is getting in on the act.
The league is giving everyone who has "liked" their favorite team on Facebook a chance to win tickets to the July 12 All-Star Game. Fans attending Thursday's nine MLB games who check in using the league's mobile app can get a free T-shirt if they're among the first 100 to do so.
At CNN, our iReport crew teamed up with Mashable to ask folks how social media has changed their lives.
Self-described "old guy" James Amerson sent in a photo gallery and told us about how social media helped him become part of local and global arts communities that he may have never known about otherwise.
"I would never in a million years thought an old guy like me would benefit from social media, but as luck would have it, I found myself right where I've been longing to be, in the company of open minded, creative and hard working people who are willing to think outside the box," he wrote.
Amerson, of Pensacola, Florida, discovered the global "Inside Out"art project through a friend on Facebook and plans to do more like it with the people he met.

Vedanta

Vedanta
The government has given the green signal to the controversial deal that will give Vedanta resources the controlling stake in the Cairn India.

The cabinet committee on economic affairs on Thursday gave the go-ahead with two principal riders. One, it asked both Vedanta Resources and Cairn Energy to provide relief to the state-run ONGC on the issue of royalty. Two, Cairn India will have to withdraw the arbitration petition in international courts against the payment of a cess.

The approval came 10 months after the multi-billion dollar deal was announced by Cairn Energy and Vedanta Resources, both UK-based, in August last year. Briefing media after the cabinet committee meeting, oil minister S Jaipal Reddy said, “The committee gave conditional approval to the sale of Cairn India stake to Vedanta…This chapter is over today.”

The approval is in sync with the recommendations of a ministerial group headed by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee. The group had said the deal could be cleared subject to Vedanta and Cairn agreeing to bear the cost of royalty for oil from the country’s most prolific onshore field in Barmer, Rajasthan, and to withdraw the arbitration case.

Cairn India will have to pay Rs 12,600 crore in royalty over the lifetime of the Barmer oilfield. After apportionment, the state-owned ONGC will have to pay Rs 5,400 crore over 15 years as royalty. The total royalty at current rates will thus work out to Rs 18,000 crore, payable by Cairn and ONGC, which together own the field.

Cairn India operates the block and holds 70 per cent stake, whereas ONGC has 30 per cent participating interest in the field. Cairn now mines 125,000 barrels of crude a day from the Mangla field in Barmer. The projected peak production is 175,000 barrels a day.

The government position is that the cess is payable by oil producers under the provisions of the Oil Industry Development Act of 1974, and there are no specific provisions in the production sharing contracts for exempting Cairn from the cess.

“I am happy that Cairn will pay royalty,” ONGC group chairman AK Hazarika told Financial Chronicle. Asked how much would be the financial benefit to ONGC, Hazarika said, “It is difficult to say right now. Royalty will vary over the life cycle of the field and the crude oil price. A preliminary estimate shows royalty over the entire lifetime may be between Rs 17,000 crore and Rs 18,000 crore.”

“It (the cabinet committee decision) is very positive. It vindicates ONGC’s stand and it is entirely in line with the production sharing contract,” ONGC director of finance DK Saraf told Financial Chronicle.

These are other conditions set by the ministerial group to which neither side had any objections.

“They (Cairn and Vedanta) will have to agree in principle to all these conditions,” said Jaipal Reddy. He also made clear that the companies couldn’t raise these issues again in the future.

Asked if ONGC would exercise its first right of refusal, the minister said, “The company has already made it clear through a resolution that it will not press for it.”

Among other conditions are that Cairn and Vedanta will have to obtain no- objection certificates from its partner and provide performance and financial guarantees. Also, the companies will have to seek all regulatory clearances, including from market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India. The companies will also have to seek security clearance from the home ministry.

“We have to see if Cairn India’s management agrees to these conditions on royalty and cess,” Vienna-based Juergen Maier of Raiffeisen Capital Management told Bloomberg News. “If the management approves, then it is a negative for Cairn India shareholders.”

The deal was initially valued at between $8.5 billion and $9.4 billion for the 40-51 per cent stake in Cairn India which Anil Aggarwal’s Vedanta Resources wanted to buy from Cairn Energy.

However, it has undergone several changes since then. In April the Anil Agarwal-promoted Sesa Goa acquired 10.41 per cent in Cairn India from Petronas of Malaysia. Sesa Goa also bought 8 per cent more at Rs 355 a share in an open offer on April 30.

A surprising turn came on Monday when Cairn Energy and Vedanta announced ‘adjustments’ to the deal. The companies brought down the value of the deal to Rs 355 a share from the Rs 405 negotiated earlier.

After the cabinet committee meeting, Vedanta Resources said it was awaiting official intimation of the approval and details of the pre-conditions from the government to consider the next course of action.

Cairn took the same stand, saying, “Cairn has not yet received formal confirmation of any decision that has been made by the government.”

Nokia X7 Price In India

Since the past 2 weeks Nokia has been all over the news, and for the right reasons. The company launched its flagship handset, the N9 less than a week ago. The Finnish manufacturer continued to stay in the news with the launch of the N950, the unexpected leak of the Sea Ray and the N5. Now, it's time for something official. The Nokia X7 which will be the manufacturer's second known Symbian Anna handset after the E6, has now been launched in the country. Nokia quotes the price of the device as Rs 21,999.
The X7 will feature a large 4" AMOLED capacitive display with a pixel dimensions of 360x640, an 8 MP camera capable of recording 720p videos, and a 680 MHz CPU among others. The Symbian Anna operating system is said to bring some improvements to the platform, with a revamped web browser, and a better looking user interface. The X7 will come with an 8 GB microSD card and 320 MB of internal storage. The smartphone has been called by Nokia as a high definition gaming device, so we won't be surprised to see some games coming pre-loaded with the handset. It seems like most of the features of the X7 rely heavily on the Symbian Anna platform. In the processing department, Nokia is stuck with the same 680 MHz ARM chipset, we saw in the N8 and other Symbian^3 smartphones. A processor upgrade would've have been very welcome.

The Nokia X7 seems like a worthy competitor to the N8, and we say that only because of the new OS and not in any other aspect. Priced at almost Rs 22,000, we think the X7 is a tad overpriced. Nevertheless, the newest version of Symbian comes with a price tag. As far as the usability of the device is concerned, we don't think that the buyers will be disappointed. But whether it's value for money or not, is for the buyer to decide.

Google Review

Playing around with Google + last night, I had a ball clicking buttons and playing with the features the network had to offer. But I kept running into the same problem — there was no one in this sandbox but me.
That’s the main problem the network faces as it mounts its assault on Facebook.
The few people on Google + got there by special invitation, and the network’s suggestion feature didn’t make it easy to find out who else made it to the party. While I don’t want Google to automatically find, add and sort my contacts, Google should consider improving the tools that let me know who’s out there.
There are some really great features in the network worth mentioning. For one, the navigation bar, which pushes you alerts on network activity without being too intrusive, and the group video chat function, Hangouts, is way beyond any free video chat service I’ve seen.
But there are problems, too. Apart from actually populating the network, what will make or break this network is how well it works with the Google products I already use. Getting me to switch from Facebook is going to rely on whether I can fold G+ into my daily routine while I’m checking e-mail, looking at my calendar and going through my reader feed. The company is in the unique position to become a one-stop shop for work and play.
So far, the integration choices on G+ are kind of baffling.
Google Chat is integrated, as is Picasa. You can import your contacts from Yahoo and Hotmail. But unless you get very clever, there’s no way to seek out your friends from Facebook. There’s no Twitter integration yet — surprising, given that you can hook your Twitter feed into Buzz.
And apart from the navigation bar, the network has precious little to do with Gmail, Reader, Google Docs, or Google Calendar. Even adding the widgets already available in iGoogle would help, and something I hope the company adds in the future. Right now, there’s just too much switching to be done to use your Google services. Checking your Gmail, for example, opens the service in a new tab or window, and duplicates your open chats.
On the privacy front, Google has improved what it’s done before. Google’s been careful not to hook too many things into the network automatically, but needs to be clearer about how its privacy settings work. Each feature makes it pretty clear what’s public and what’s private, but the central privacy settings are a bit convoluted.
And what about advertising? We’ll just have to wait and see. There’s certainly a lot of potential for Google to use this data for targeted advertising, but right now, there are no ads on the network.
According to Google spokesman Chris Gaither, Google is more concentrated on getting the network off the ground than it is about advertising for the moment, but he said company will stick by its rule that personally identifiable information doesn’t go to third parties, and that personal information won’t be shared without consent.
Otherwise, Google’s taking a wait-and-see approach during the field tests. “The team has been reading feedback,” Gaither said, “and making note of what people have been saying so far.”
That’s something you’ll be hearing a lot from Google. The company has made it clear that G+ is a work-in-progress and that it’s going to continually be trying to work through bugs and barbs that will inevitably pop up.
Overall, Google + was fun to use and has a lot of potential. I could see using it in addition to Facebook, but until Google weaves more of their existing services into G+ and opens it up to include more of the people I want to connect with, it won’t become my main way to socialize online.

Here’s a deeper dive into the network by feature:
Circles: Circles is that it’s not so exactly-like-Facebook as it initially seemed. Instead, it’s a hybrid of friending and following that could get difficult to wrap one’s head around. You can put anyone in a Circle, and they can choose to reciprocate or not. Regardless of whether someone you’ve added to your Circles adds you back, you’ll be able to see their public updates.
The animations for creating, deleting and modifying Circles are also, I have to say, way too much fun for their own good. I admit that I found myself creating circles just to delete them.
Stream: The stream — essentially the Google + version of a Facebook news feed — pulls in information from posts made by people in your circles. You, or anyone following you, can also give your personal endorsement, the +1, to any post or comment.
Aesthetically, it’s a big step up from the News Feed. Practically, it has a couple features that edge out the news feed. Google has the added features of letting users “mute” or hide a post in the stream as well. You can also sort your stream by Circles to see posts only relevant to work or to catch up on the latest news from your friends.
When it comes to sharing information on your stream, the functionality is very similar to Facebook as well. The only major problem I had with the stream is that it’s not possible to access some of the settings on a post before it’s published. So while a user can edit with whom they want to share a given tidbit, the options to stop others from resharing that post or commenting on it aren’t enabled until after it’s live.
Photos: The photo viewer on G+ is solid, and looks good, though it’s not amazing. Integrated with Picasa, the service lets you tag anyone’s pictures, which could be a serious problem. Users do, however, have the option to approve or reject photo tags, and Google lets you know when you’ve been ID’d in a photo.
Sparks: I was disappointed with Sparks, which pushes users content they choose to follow. As an avid Google Reader user I’m bummed to see there doesn’t seem to be a way to pull my reader feed into my Sparks. Plus, the content in the feeds you select don’t appear to be sorted by time, and there’s also no way to sort your feeds or view all of the subjects you’ve chosen at once.
Hangouts: For me, this is by far the coolest feature of Google +, and one that really distinguishes it from any other social network out there. Someone clearly put a lot of thought into the design of Hangouts, letting users mute video or audio and even giving you a second to make sure you’re presentable before joining the chat.
Not only does its group video chat feature work like a dream, Google has cleverly integrated YouTube into Hangouts to let you watch a video together. It even fires up a push-to-talk feature when you’re watching a video, so that the speaker feedback doesn’t hurt everyone’s ears.
