Nokia Dual Sim Mobile

MOBILE phone giant Nokia unveiled in Cebu yesterday two new handsets with the capability to use dual subscriber identity modules (SIM) at the same time.
The Nokia X1-01 and C2-00 are “feature-rich” dual-SIM handsets that are seen to strengthen the company’s share of the mobile phone market.
Nokia Philippines corporate communications manager Nikka Abes said in yesterday’s launch that the company’s foray into the dual-SIM segment is also meant to address the growing consumer needs for dual SIM phones.
“We may have joined the bandwagon a little later compared to the other mobile manufacturers but we have innovative features of these dual-SIM phones that we are
bringing to the market,” Abes said.
The company said that Nokia X1-01 and Nokia C2-00 are packed with more memory, better battery life and far richer SIM change and entertainment features than other dual SIM products currently in the market.
Fighting back
The two phones can be bought at suggested retail prices of P1,990 for Nokia X1-01 and P2, 990 for the Nokia C2-00. Abes said the phones will be out in the market this month or in July.
Abes, who noted that the Nokia’s high-end phones were a bit affected by the growing popularity of brands like iPhones and Blackberry, said the company is still optimistic to regain its market share.
Abes said they are fighting back with the introduction of new phones.
“We are expecting our new products would help us regain what was rightfully ours,” she said.
Despite the intense competition in the mobile high-end segment, Abes noted that mobile phones belonging to the low-end segment somehow helped the company keep up with the competition.
She admitted, though, that the entry of dual-SIM phones in the market by other mobile manufacturers provided a challenge to their company.
“We suffered a slight decline with the entry of these dual-SIM phones but now that we are joining this bandwagon, we are confident to regain what we have lost,” Abes said.
Although she admitted the entry of the company’s own dual-SIM phones would affect existing low-end units, she said the company is not threatened so long as consumers would still purchase Nokia products.
IDC reported that in the first quarter this year, Nokia’s market share in the smartphone segment stood at 24.3 percent, closer to the 25 percent reported by Gartner Inc., also one of the world’s leading information technology research and advisory firms.
Abes said 2011 would be a challenging year for the company because of the wait-and-see stance of consumers with the recent announcement by the company to shift the phone’s platform from Symbian to Windows.
