SWA

SWA
One soldier was killed and two others were injured when militants attacked a security forces check post in tehsil Laddah of South Waziristan Agency (SWA) on Saturday, while three militants were killed in the retaliatory action.

According to official sources, the skirmishes between insurgents and security forces personnel were reported when Taliban fighters in the wee hours rocked security forces check post with automatic weapons and rockets in tehsil Laddah, killing a soldier and inflicting injuries on two others. The attack was promptly retaliated by the security forces in which three militants were killed.

The security forces had stepped up operation in the Mehsud tribesmen area of SWA against Taliban fighters loyal to slain Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander Baitullah Mehsud in 2009. The government has claimed that backbone of the Mehsud Taliban know led by TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud had been broken and also initiated the repatriation process of the Mehsud IDPs. The reports of skirmishes between Taliban and security forces are worrisome for returning IDPs of SWA who were hoping for peaceful life in future in their hometown.
